Dear Miss. Tran,
My name is Gurneet Saini. I am 16 years old and am currently in Grade 11 at Louise Arbour Secondary School. Some of my interests include listening to music, watching movies, and writing stories. My hobbies include reading, cross-stitching, swimming, and playing badminton. As an individual, I have many strengths as well as weaknesses. Some of my strengths include working well individually, working well under pressure, and managing my time wisely. I also am very determined and do not give up easily. I have many weaknesses as well, which include that I am shy and I am uncomfortable presenting in front of people. I find it hard to multi-task sometimes and I prefer to work individually instead of in a group because I find it hard to depend on other people.
I decided to take this grade 11 biology course because I may want to have a career in science and I wanted to keep my options open for the future because I am not sure what career path I wish to follow. Biology in my opinion is the study of life, the study of animals, plants and humans, their body functions and how they live (their habitats, what they eat, etc.). From this course, I hope to achieve and understand what biology is, how our body works and how all living organisms are connected to one other and how we all depend on one another. I am not sure about what my future plans are but I may want to become a marine biologist and so this course will help me get a feel for biology and what it is all about. Taking this course will help me decide if biology is something that interests me. What I already know about biology that will help me in this course is the cell cycle as well as cell components, the three main systems in our body, and the structure of DNA. This will make the course easier for me to understand because I already know some of the content that we will be covering in this course.
Some important learning strategies I need to apply in order to be successful in this course is to do my homework, ask questions when I do not understand something, and write my own notes and re-read or re-write them in order to fully understand them. What Miss. Tran can do to help me be successful in this course is answer questions when I do not understand something in class. She can go over tough topics to make sure that everyone understands them, and provide examples to help make content clearer.
I am excited to be taking this course and I cannot wait to learn about the body and how the body performs functions and how all organisms are related, and more. I hope that we start this semester off great and end it that way as well. I hope you enjoy having me in your class.
Sincerely,
Gurneet Saini
