1) Slightly elevated blood glucose levels increase risk of heart disease:
http://www.scientistlive.com/European-Food-Scientist/Medical_and_Biological/Slightly_elevated_blood_glucose_levels_increase_risk_of_heart_disease/25615/
This article talks about how high levels of glucose can cause a risk of ischemic heart disease. It used to be thought that people who have diabetes are at a greater risk of getting ischemic heart disease but then recent studies showed that people who don’t have diabetes still have a high risk of getting the disease if their glucose level rises. Studies show that even if your glucose level rises by 18 milligrams above normal levels, the chance of you getting a heart attack rises by 69%. Once again studies show that even if your glucose level rises a little bit, that could damage your heart.
My view on the article is that it is important for us to maintain a healthy level of glucose. Many people don’t understand the dangers of having a high level of glucose, or even that having a level slight above the normal level can be very dangerous to a person. The discovery in this article will affect me as a citizen and a student because it shows that even a slight increase in glucose level can harm you which is a great health tip. Knowing this, it motivates me to exercise and eat healthier. It affects professionals in the field because this discovery can help reduce the amounts of heart attacks, doctors finally can understand why heart attacks occur. Improvements for this idea can be to find cures for this disease, we often find out how diseases are caused but few curses are found for them and so the next step is for scientist is to find a cure.

2) Diesel exhaust found to cause lung cancer:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/health/diesel-exhaust-found-to-cause-lung-cancer/article4253849/?cmpid=rss1
This article is about how diesel exhaust causes lung cancer. Studies showed that diesel exhaust causes lung cancer and will be put on the International Agency for Research on Cancer’s list of known carcinogens. Also, there is a possibility that it causes bladder cancer. Diesel exhaust causes an increase in cancer, and people who work in an environment around diesel have more types of cancer than other people. A study from 2010 shows that people who work around diesel exhaust have a 31% chance higher than other people to get lung cancer. Also, scientists believe that diesel may cause an increase in health risks to children and when tested, some animals have shown health risks early in life. The International Agency for Research on Cancer is unsure of how much inhale of diesel exhaust is dangerous for humans. Diesel exhaust contains small particles and when breathed in they can get stuck in your throat and lungs which causes an increase in risk of getting lung cancer.
I think this article is very helpful because while we always knew that diesel exhaust was bad for our bodies we never know that it could cause cancer. Knowing this information is useful because we know that it can cause cancer so we can try to reduce the risk of that. The ideas in this article would affect me as a student and as a citizen because it makes you more aware and you become
more careful around cars and other things that let out diesel exhaust. It affects you as a professional because now that you know that diesel can cause lung cancer, you will want to find a way to limit the exposure and effect of diesel. The advantage of this is that you know that car diesel can cause lung cancer but a disadvantage is that we don’t have a solution to fix it. The next
step for this would be to find a cure for it and if that isn’t possible to try to get rid of diesel and invent new vehicles that don’t emit exhaust.
